 Remembering Richard “Dick” Oths (1933–2022)

Eleanor and the late Dick Oths

As the first CEO of Atlantic Health System and former president of Morristown Medical Center, the late Richard “Dick” Oths set in motion a transformative vision for health care that would help to shape the future of the system. In 1996, Dick led the way in unifying Morristown, Overlook and Mountainside Hospitals to create Atlantic Health System, which at the time was the largest health care system in New Jersey. His tireless commitment to patients, families and team members throughout the region raised the bar for superior medical care and a new model of high-quality, well-coordinated care emerged as an industry standard. Dick is remembered fondly for this pioneering work and for his unwavering belief in building strong, healthy communities. As a Foundation for Morristown Medical Center trustee, generous donor and honorary Brookfield Legacy Society Council member, Dick’s devotion to the hospital set the stage for the exemplary achievements in medical excellence and compassionate patient-centric care that Morristown Medical Center and Atlantic Health System are known for today.
