Morristown, New Jersey, July 30, 2020 – To meet demand for the comprehensive medical care needed for children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders, Atlantic Health System’s Goryeb Children’s Hospital today announced the opening of its expanded Valerie Fund Children’s Center.

The new Valerie Fund Children’s Center at Goryeb Children’s Hospital includes eight open and private infusion bays for chemotherapy and blood work, four new exam and consultation rooms, a large procedure room, private family lounge and playroom, providing valuable additional space to meet the growing needs of our community.
“Parents come to Goryeb Children’s Hospital for our medical team’s clinical expertise and wealth of specialists, but also because of the exceptional, family-centered care we are known for,” Walter D. Rosenfeld, MD, chair of Pediatrics, Goryeb Children’s Hospital and Atlantic Health System, said. “We want to ensure we are able to help families and children when they are at their most vulnerable, and with the expanded infusion center and clinical space, as well as space for families and their children to relax, we will be better able to do so.”

The new unit was funded in large part by donations made by community members in support of the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center’s Growing Forward Campaign.

“Because of our loyal donor support, we were able to expedite the expansion and renovation of the Valerie Fund Children’s Center ensuring high-quality support of our patients, their families and our incredible, award-winning clinical teams,” Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, Morristown Medical Center president and Atlantic Health System vice president, said. “We are forever grateful to the Goryeb family for their tremendous generosity, as well as for the support from our entire community of donors who contribute to the success of the hospital and in creating a healing environment.”

In the last decade, Atlantic Health System’s Goryeb Children’s Hospital’s patient volume increased by 80 percent. The expansion and renovation of the Valerie Fund Children’s Center at Goryeb Children’s Hospital is the third phase of the hospital’s renovation project.  Last fall, the Joan and Edward Foley Pediatric Intensive Care Unit expanded from nine to 15 private patient rooms. Prior to that, the Ryan Family Pediatric Inpatient Unit South added eight private rooms. These rooms, combined with the 26-bed Vanech Family Pediatric Inpatient Unit, boosted inpatient (non-critical care) to 34 beds.
